criticism appreciated. It's a pretty simple portrait, but I'm kinda unsatisfied with it. I'm just gonna leave it alone from now on though because it's got so much crap on it. .__.; And it's similar to the other painting because it's like his brother or something...I don't know. DX It doesn't help that it's the very first thing in my new sketchbook, so I have to look at it. While I was working on it those eyes were like STARING INTO MY HEAD so it annoys me to look at it now. >_>
I disagree with poudot on the calming colors thing. I think the colors on her face make her very intense and the texture on her hair makes me think she's a very complex person. I think, in my honest opinion, that she could do without the horns, and the blending of her shirt into the bg is distracting. If it was more uniform and solid, like a wide oval shape, it would be more compositionally sound. That being said, I really like the way you've rendered the face, and she has very cute hair. It is quite a pleasant piece to look at. I'm jealous of your skill.
thank you so much for this thoughtful comment. *__* yes, I didn't intend for the colors to be calming, I like red because I think it's an intense color. as for the horns, I like drawing them but I can see what you mean about it being better without them. they look like they were just stuck on there. and it looks better in real life, the background doesn't blend into the shirt quite so much but I probably should have chosen better colors, I'm still learning what looks good together. thanks! and jealous of MY skill? I'm jealous of your skill.
No problem honey. I just saw that you wanted crits, and I am hyper because I had caffeine, which is bad for me, because I become FUCKING WIRED AS HELL. So I was like CRIT, CRIT, OMG. I CAN DO THAT. WOAH WOAH WOAH...here we GO -explodes crit juice all over the comp-
Yup. Thats how it went down.
No probs baby. It is a lovely piece. I think I am going to take the textured hair idea from you. It seems like such fun.
ahahah of course not! there was a lot of paint on it, so I just peeled some of it off and then sharpie'd it. I suppose another nice idea would be to maybe let the paint dry in raised lines...I dunno if that would work though.
